New iPhone 5 LTE 4G Speed Test And Review

With Apple promising theoretical speeds of up to 100Mbps, LTE was certainly one of the more exciting additions to the sixth-generation
iPhone. However, as I soon discovered, the tremendous influx of customers clogging the network quickly diminishes the speeds one can expect. Surprisingly slower than HSPA+ here in Los Angeles, LTE doesn’t seem to have any noticeable impact on performance when downloading over the network.
That being said, hopefully as the strain on the network lessens, speeds will increase and be worthy of the “4G LTE” title. Moreover, based on location and cellular network, speeds are subject to change drastically. Whereas initial tests in Los Angeles yield staggeringly slow speeds, more mature LTE locations – and those with less customers – could experience blazing fast download and upload speeds.

iPhone 5 Front Facing HD Camera Test

The front facing camera on the brand new iPhone 5 is one of it’s best features. Recording at a beautiful 720p, which feels more like 1080p - the quality is just fantastic for a front facing camera. It seems to exceed anything I’ve ever seen for a facetime shooter, and makes for really nice crisp video - especially with the new microphone upgrades. Take a look at the video below to see just how it works.

As you can see, the quality is a significant upgrade from the last iteration of iPhone. Everything down to the leaves on plant is in good and detailed definition. Once again, stay tuned for all the iPhone 5 coverage we have in store, and tell us - do you think the front facing camera is a nice upgrade?

iPhone 5 First Boot-Up

The iPhone 5 was available for pick-up today in local
carriers as well as Apple Stores. In this video, we show you the first boot-up of the magical iPhone. Of all companies, Apple’s product boots-up the quickest for it’s first time of being turned on. In sum, the iPhone 5 has blown me away with all the features it has. Some of them are the 4-inch screen, LTE, and the sexiness of the black model. Stay tuned for more videos regarding the iPhone 5!

iPhone 5: The Most Durability Yet (Drop Test)

Today the iPhone 5 was officially released to the public. Sites like iFixyouri have already gone through tests dropping the new phone from different heights to measure its durability. The amazing results show that the new phone can survived multiple drops from waste and head height before the screen shatters. The results are far better than last years iPhone
4S model that easily breaks when dropped at waist height. Hopefully this means that there will be a lot less iPhone repairs this year.

Apple’s New Lightning Charging Demo

As you might have heard, Apple released their iPhone 5 today and it was available in stores. One prominent feature on the iPhone 5 is Lightning Charging. Beforehand, ever Apple device used the 30-pin
dock connector and it was a painSome problemsincluded the fact that it wasn’t reversible, it was bulky, and just too big! With Lightning Charging, the cable itself looks sleeker, is 80% thinner, and is reversible. Stay tuned for more iPhone 5 coverage!

iPhone 5 vs 4/4S: Design & Hardware

Continuing our trend of iPhone 5 coverage, I thought it would be suitable to compare the hardware of the iPhone 5 - to that of the iPhone 4/4S. When a design sticks around for 2 years in your pocket, it’s difficult not to get attached to it. But does the new iPhone’s hardware compare? Take a look at the video below to see the major differences:

There’s one thing that the new iPhone’s not lacking in, and that’s design aesthetic. It’s one of the most stunning devices on the market, and with that comes functionality. All of the aesthetic changes have some sort of function, be it the headphone jack on the bottom - of the smaller port, they all do something. The only real exception being the two-tone backplate, which let’s face it, is there only for show.
Saying that, the iPhone 5 has taken the positives of the iPhone 4/4S’s design, and turned all of the negatives around. It’s truly a sight to behold, and actually hold…

Speed Test: iPhone 5 vs New iPad 3

The iPhone 5 and the New iPad. The only iOS devices that we have thus far seen released in the flesh from Apple. Taking this into account, it’s only appropriate that I speed test them for you. Please bare in mind that this is in no way a scientific test, it was purely to indicate what device will be faster in everyday situations. Video is of course the most effective way to show off a speed test, so check out the video below to see how they performed:

The basic summary of this test is that the iPhone 5 seems to perform faster in everyday use. Now this may be down to the faster processor, better hardware in general - or just the fact that my iPhone is new, whereas the iPad is around 6 months old. What you should probably take from this though, is that in everyday general use, either of these devices will perform well and pretty much flawlessly, much like many smart-devices these days.

iPhone 5 Video Camera Quality Vs iPhone 4S

The iPhone 5 features an upgraded camera similar to that in the iPhone 4S. In the video above we compare footage from the two devices back to back to show you the difference. Both cameras are amazing for a mobile device, however, it is clear that the iPhone 5 is an improvement upon its predecessor despite the fact that is is a thinner phone.

The iPhone 5 Design – Is it all that?

The iPhone 5 has a quite unique design and what it has to offer. First off, it features a 4-inch Retina display, 4G LTE enabled (not HSPA+), and a new design. In terms of design, there are three total faces that have been drastically changed. On the front, the front facing camera is at the top, above the speaker, vs. the left side seen in the iPhone 4S. Coming toward the back, we have a two-tone design. On the top, we have a solid black rectangle that encloses the 8 MP camera, and LED flash. Finally, coming towards the bottom we have the 3.5mm headphone jack, a physical speaker, and a lightning charging port. In sum, the iPhone 5 has really changed the ball game this year in terms of features and design. Be sure to stay tuned for more iPhone 5 coverage!

Facetime Demo On The iPhone 5!

As I mentioned earlier in my video sample with the front facing HD camera, a huge upgrade for the iPhone 5 is the new shooter on the front of the device. For some people, this may not be much of an upgrade - but for people like me it’s invaluable. Facetime is equally fun and useful, but with the VGA quality of previous facetime cameras, in collaboration with facetime’s compression, it didn’t make for a nice experience. However incomes the iPhone 5 and how does it fare? Watch the video below to see a full demo of facetime on the iPhone 5:

The facetime quality is significantly improved, and I can no longer almost count the pixels in a call. This upgrade was much needed, but it’s nice that Apple have delivered anyway, it turns facetime from a gimmick into a viable communication method- especially if the users can use it over
3G like in iOS 6.

Gaming On The New iPhone 5

There’s no denying it, neither does the stats. iOS devices have become itegral parts of the gaming community, and thousands of hours of casual gaming is done on iPhones every day. With that in mind, gaming capabilities on the iPhone 5 have to be explored. I put that to the test. Playing two of my go-to tester games, Riptide GP and Epoch - I tested the iPhone 5 to see how well it could deal with the large requirements of 3D renders in the background, and even running the unreal engine.

How did the iPhone do? Passed with flying colours. Both games that I threw at it it handled with ease, now of course, I didn’t test it with every game on the app store so I can’t be certain for every application- but on the whole, you’re going to be very pleased with the gaming performance that the brand new iPhone 5 can bring you.
