Though the new Android update, Jelly Bean, is being rolled out slowly, users are seen loving the new features and smoother interface of this new operating system, compared to Gingerbread and its predecessor, Ice Cream Sandwich.
So what will make Jelly Bean so much better than ICS? Here’s a look at a few of the features that will make Android users happy with their new platform updates.
The Home Screen
The Jelly Bean home screen will be much easier to use. For one thing, notifications that appear on your home page will be bigger! You won’t be squinting when you are looking for e-mail. You’ll even be able to see a preview of e-mails as you’re getting them. Time and date are easy to see, too. All the icons you need are right there, with your text button, call button and Internet button, large and easy to access (and making calls and re-dialing missed calls is easy, too).
You can also customize your widgets on the home screen so you can put them where you want. You can even resize them when they are too big!
Like Butter!
The coolest improvement made by far is the smoothness of the Android platform. It doesn’t lag, drag or freeze, it simply just works. Engineers nicknamed the interface ‘Project Butter’which implies exactly what it says, it’s smooth as butter. Users will love how easy the touch screen responds and the Internet is faster, too.
Google Now
There may not be a lot of cool, new apps for Jelly Bean users, but one app that is sure to be popular is Google Now. What does Google Now do? It’s a search engine with benefits. Combining the features of the regular Google search with navigation, weather and a calendar, the Google Now will become your go-to app many times during a busy day.
The app can also tell you what restaurants are nearby if you’re in an unfamiliar area, and tell you how long it will take to get home or to your next destination. It’s being compared to Siri, without the annoying voice app, although users can direct their own voice commands to Google Now by speaking instead of typing, such as when they are asking for directions.
Other Benefits of Jelly Bean
The keyboard is a little smaller, which allows for more precision when typing. If you love taking photos on your phone, Jelly Bean has improved that as well, making it easy to shoot and delete images, as well as share them with one simple swipe. You won’t have to wait for pictures to load to look at them; with a swipe, they are there instantly for you to see.
The Chrome browser has stepped web viewing up a notch, and this is a noticeable improvement on previous incarnations of the Android platform. Is Jelly Bean a sweeter deal for Android users? It appears it might just be.
